Concept Design
Before commencing with the Passive House design it was important to investigate the site, checking the orientation lends itself to maximising solar gain and the impact from other houses, fences and trees.
The site faces just a few degress to the west when looking north, and there is an open aspect to the east. With no especially tall structures to the north it seemed ideal for maximising solar gain. But, this had to be modelled before the detailed design progressed to check that there wasn’t a problem with overheating.
Layout Plans
After deciding on the orientation for the house, how it fits onto the site was the next important step.
Sizing the house, while allowing space around the outside for parking a car and being able to enjoy the outdoor space was equally important.
